A 17x11 wheel with 6" backspace might fit if the body is square on the frame. I ran 20x10 TT II's w/5.5" backspace and 275/35/20 Michelins on the rear of my former 68 Elky and there was plenty of room. Here's the rub,,a 17x11 rim will require a 315/35/17 tire and that combo will be a very "fug snit" even if everything is just right.
A 9.5" wide front rim? Good question and one I don't know the answer to,just yet. My plans are to run a 17x9 front wheel w/275/40/17 front tire on the front of my 69 Elky Pro Street/Tourer hybrid I'm building.

I have 17 x 11 ZR1 replica wheels with a 315/35ZR17 tire on my 70 El Camino. 6.87" backspace measured to the tire sidewall. The tires are 12.38" wide at the sidewalls. They fit perfectly.

Normally backspace measurments are made from the wheel mounting surface to the back edge of the rim or to the inside edge where the tire bead sits depending on who you ask. That's fine for fitting the wheel but I think a more accurate and meaningfull backspace measurement also takes the tire into consideration. So I measured the backspace on my 17x11 wheel & tire combo from the wheel mounting surface to the tire sidewall. I got 7.87". Not 6.87" like I said in the previous post. I should have said 6.87" of backspace is what I "need". So, with a 1" wheel adapter, the tire is centered perfectly in the wheel well.

That's what I thought you meant. :D Only problem is you added another variable. I can understand adding the spacer because of the wheel offset. BTW,what offset are your 17x11 rear wheels? 36mm or 50mm?

36mm. I wanted to use the smallest adapter possible which is 1". The offset measurement is a much more meaningful spec. than backspace in my opinion. Before I bought my wheels and tires, I calculated how much total backspace I would have using the wheels offset spec. and the manufacturer's tire dimensions. After I had the tires mounted, I measured the backspace. It was right on the nuts.

No, those are the only ones. I'm out of town until the 17th of April. I can take more when I get back. Is there a certain angle you'd like to see?

Be nice to see some rear quarter shots so we can appreciate the 17x11/315 tire & wheel combo.

Did you see the pics on Imagestation? There were three angles of the rear tire.

When I first signed up with Imagestation, anyone could view the photo albums. Then they changed that and now everyone has to sign up, whether you post pics or not. Even though it's free, it's still kind of irritating. I just haven't had time to explore other alternatives yet.
