It seems like I'm getting further and further behind! I thought the firewall was almost done, then I cut it out and started over. Now I'm thinking of getting rid of the master cylinder hump and moving the master to another location...then there is the wiper motor in the way--I think I better quit while I'm ahead since this is just going to be a driver.

Nice, the firewall looks great. I love the look with it smoothed.

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy.
I have no idea why GM turned loose a 6 year old left handed Chineese girl under the hood with a pointed hammer so she could beat the CRAP out of the firewall of the second Gen Camino. It can't all be pinch welds but it seems the firewall has at least 500 dimples. Mine looked the same way. Aside from a wriknley stamping, and lumpy / bumpy surface,,, simply FULL of mindless dimples that seemed to have no purpose.

....
but I sure didn't have the gumption to cut it out and smooth it. Nice work Mike. A major undertaking but I'm sure it's going to pay off in the end.

Looking at the back side of the pieces I cut out, those dimples don't serve any purpose. Plus, previous owners have drilled about a million holes to hang things on the firewall over the years. The 2" drywall screws holding the carpet down were a real nice touch--it looked like a porcupine in there!
I should have stopped with just cleaning and painting...I've created a monster, and I'd really like to get my Nova back together to go racing, but now that the weather is getting hot, I don't look forward to wearing a jacket and helmet in a hot car...Let me think of some more excuses:boring:

I went through there on the 1999 and 2000 Power Tours--117° one year. I made a couple passes in another guy's car at Firebird...I was wearing shorts and a T-shirt and was miserable.

Working out some wavy areas, and then it'll be on to a little weld smoothing. Some more filler, some more sanding...why am I doing this again? I'll probably never open the hood!
