: I need suggestions for wheels on a budget
Stikman33 Mar 9th, 03, 2:08 AM Hey guys, it is time for new wheels and tires on my 70 chevelle since i am tired of the rear tires rubbing on the fenders since the previous owner screwed up the backspace. I would like a 15 inch chrome wheel or some sort or polished steel or aluminum. I could go bigger if something strikes my eye though. I need a 15x8 with 4 in backspace and standard 15x7s up front. These will be getting 235/60/15's on front and 295/50/15's on back.
What wheels would you suggest on a budget. That means that i am not willing to pay for TT2's brand new, if i could i would like to keep it to around 100 dollars a wheel or less. Anyone have any good suggestions that would look good on a 70 velle? I appreciate any suggestions and am open to just about anything. Thanks guys.
Daniel
Gary_E Mar 9th, 03, 8:28 AM I would try chrome rally's. Then you could pickand choose your center sections. They typically run ~80$ apiece, and look great. If you go to swap meets then you'd be able to find them even cheaper! smile.gif
ZZ69chevelle Mar 9th, 03, 11:25 AM Weld Draglites are nice smile.gif I used 4.5" BS on a 15x8 in the back though with 275's and 235's up front on 15x7 with 4.5" BS No rubbing at all.
BK72SS Mar 9th, 03, 6:48 PM Welds are a little pricey the weld draglites cost me $138 for the 15x7's for the front and $142 for the 15x8's for the rear that I bought last October from Summit (unless this fits your budget Daniel). I would go with the american racing outlawI it looks like the centerline autodrag except it's nearly half the price, I think you can get these at pep boys for around $80. I had them on my 72 chevelle for six years and I have even won trophies at car shows with these wheels and I do see a few of them at cruise-in's and you don't see them as often as you do the welds.

LS6 PWR Mar 9th, 03, 11:07 PM the SS Cragars look good on anything...they're around what...110 a wheel...
feeblerboy Mar 10th, 03, 11:09 AM Eaglewheels.com has alot to choose from for around 100 dollars.
Also, check out the Automotive dept. at Sears. Sometimes they have great deals. I got my wheels there for 109 a piece. Check em out on my website.
good luck
thor27 Mar 11th, 03, 1:11 AM There "used to be" a place in Portland, Or. called Walamette wheel. They folded last year, but they would make a ralley in an width offset. I provided centers and they made me some 15x4s for $30.andchange and 15X10s for $50.andchange each. The quality was great and I've had mine to 137 with no balancing woes.
Anyone else do this?
Thad Mar 11th, 03, 5:45 PM Thor, I said it before, and I'll say it again, Thats a great looking 69. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
feeblerboy, has a good point. Eagle makes a lot of nice looking wheels, and the prices are very reasonable. I might buy a set to mount drag tires someday.
Stikman33 Mar 12th, 03, 3:23 AM Thanks for the ideas guys. I am thinking that i want to stick with the 5 spoke kind of idea because at the moment i have old school 200s wheels on there. They are great wheels but the previous owner setup the backspace on the rears wrong and they rub on the quarters. I would love to get new 200s but they are more than torque thrusts at 200+ per wheel. Any good 5 spoke designs out there that dont look to ricy and arently exhorbitantly expensive? Thanks again all who have contributed so far.

chevelledude71 Mar 16th, 03, 12:51 PM I bought Weld Pro Stars for my 71. They run between $152-$155 each, from JEGS. Shipping was free, but a small fee for handling or something. :D
DoneInAMinute Mar 21st, 03, 1:24 AM EBAY! I got Cragar Street Stars almost brand new WITH BFGoodrich Comp T/A's for $500! They are almost brand new some guy had them on a '55 he never drove. I would check that out there are some serious deals to be had.-james

Rick Bandy Mar 21st, 03, 9:23 AM If I were you I would go to the Goodguys Pleasanton show this weekend and look around there swap area. It is real close to Livermore Ca.
We picked up a set of Boyds with tires for 450.00 a few years ago for our 65. I just got a set for my 66 in the last couple weeks;
Weld Draglites 15x8 4.5 bs 275-60 BFG TAs
Weld Draglites 15x8 3.5 bs 235-60 BFG TAs
Mounted balanced for 945.00 brand new,Such a deal.
Shop around!
LYTEMUP Mar 21st, 03, 11:51 AM Too bad you are looking for something in the five spoke design. I have a set of cragars that look like the draglites for sale cheap. The only thing is that you are looking for a 15 x 7 front. I think i have 15 x 8 all around. Also there is laking near the lug mounts on one of the wheels. I can let em go for 60 or 50 a piece.
