: Is it a car or a truck?
Ndepth May 27th, 10, 3:13 PM My local dragstrip has an after hours event they call the Midnight Drags. They also have a program where if you can run the number you and your ride get in free for the rest of the season called the "BAD BOY PASS". The qualifications are Cars-9.60 or quicker, Trucks- 10.75 or quicker. The question is how fast should an El camino have to run to get this pass? Is it a car or is it a truck?
barryt May 27th, 10, 4:52 PM AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
the age old question
car? or truck?
car because of weight class JMHO ????
vrooom3440 May 27th, 10, 5:13 PM I figure it depends on who is asking and what the objective is...
In this case if I wanted to get in free I would call it a truck ;)

Yep - what he said
steve_sutherland May 27th, 10, 5:59 PM I call mine a car, for sure.
but in that case, its a truck ;)
Deacon Don May 27th, 10, 6:40 PM What does the title say? In Ohio, they're titled as "pick-up truck"
Problem solved!:beers:
Robinls5 May 27th, 10, 8:58 PM It is a TRUCK. I still have the " Commercial " Pennsylvania plate from 1970. For shows I install the Org. TRUCK plate. Antique plate is under the seat.
P.S. 1970 El Camino trivia.
The ONLY piece of El Camino external sheet metal that will fit a 1970 Chevelle is the " Hood ". Trucks are different, Even the sheet metal.

Keith Tedford May 27th, 10, 9:06 PM Here in Ontario, Our '69 el Camino was registered as a car. A friend's Ranchero was registered as a truck. I guess an Ontario el Camino had too much class to be called a truck. ;)
steve_sutherland May 27th, 10, 9:31 PM ^^ hmmm..
I live in Ontario, and my 70 El Camino is registered as a truck, even has the black lettered plates with the sticker at the front.
FLASHED May 27th, 10, 9:42 PM The Georgia title lists mine as a truck .
1964elcamino May 27th, 10, 10:20 PM Illinois is titled as a truck
Keith Tedford May 27th, 10, 10:58 PM When I bought the el Camino, I questioned the car registration and explained what it was. They still left it registered as a car. Can be handy if hauling trailers. Different, more involved rules for trucks.
orangebowties May 27th, 10, 11:08 PM :beers::DGMC Sprint GMC only builds TRUCKS !!!!!:D:beers:
Ndepth May 28th, 10, 1:16 AM Well they just gave me an answer it is a truck in their eyes. I will be getting in free very soon. Thanks for the input. My Ok. title also says P/U.
Muttley May 28th, 10, 3:24 AM In British Columbia it can be registered as either a car or a truck and can be changed at any time! I regeistered mine as a truck as the G.V.W. can be whatever you tell them. I set my G.V.W. at 5,100 K.G. as it makes it air care exzempt!!
Chris R May 30th, 10, 9:46 PM I also vote to go by whatever the title says.
animal69 May 31st, 10, 12:41 PM Is it a car or a truck?
The correct answer is yes!
450HPChevelle May 31st, 10, 2:26 PM I always thought an El Camino was a Chevelle w/a mullet. Business up front, and party in the back.:D
Broon72 May 31st, 10, 2:28 PM I totally agree with the mullet comment lol:hurray:
Now I definatly need to invest in a el camino.
elcam May 31st, 10, 8:24 PM When I purchased my 1971 el camino, it was registered as a pick-up in US. When came time for me to register in Ontario Canada, I was told at license office I had the option of car , truck, or classic vehicle. I chose truck at the time, but can change if I wish. It should be noted in various GM service bulletins/ service/ assembly manuals- a el camino/sprint is referred to as 'pickup'.
Tod74 May 31st, 10, 8:57 PM our 67 has truck plates on it. I consider it a car.
Ndepth Jun 1st, 10, 7:00 PM I always thought an El Camino was a Chevelle w/a mullet. Business up front, and party in the back.:D
That seriously made me laugh out load.:hurray::hurray::hurray:
herbyjr Jul 12th, 10, 1:56 PM We just bought a 69 SS El Camino for my son. He says it is the coolest thing because it is a muscle car AND a truck. He calls it his "MuscleTruck".
:D

Krister Jul 12th, 10, 2:23 PM Go with what's on the title. Most states, can't claim all, consider a vehicle with a single row of seating and a bed to be classified as a truck.
face Jul 12th, 10, 10:19 PM I've got a 72 sprint so it's a truck but my wife's 64 El Camino is a different story. but I have to agree the chevelle with a mullet may be the best discription I've ever heard!!!
LOL!!!!!
Schurkey Jul 13th, 10, 2:23 PM Mine's a reverse-mullet.
All party up front (under the hood); and all business in back.
Dean Jul 13th, 10, 2:27 PM In Kansas a pickup has no rear seats while a car does but you can get which ever type tags you want because the folks at DMV have no idea what an El Camino is. :D
Surfin' 66 Jul 16th, 10, 10:58 PM I tell people that it's a Chevelle with the Sports Trunk Package.
That's mean, because of how many people believe it.
Eric
Surfin' 66 Jul 16th, 10, 11:01 PM the folks at DMV have no idea what an El Camino is.
Oh, to live in the land of a lame DMV....
It must be wonderful. The only thing better would be to have DMV die and go to HE-double hockey sticks.
Eric
67ElkyBryan Jul 19th, 10, 11:34 PM My title says pick up...Who am I to argue?
