: alignment changes when lowering the rear

I want to lower the rear of my car about 2 inches. I realize the caster will change, and potentially the camber and toe specs as well.

BUT, I hope to be getting the alignment this weekend, while I probably won't be lowering the rear before then...

This is on my '70, and I am pretty sure I can't just cut the rear springs, because they are pigtailed at both ends...

SO, How should I alter my alignment specs to compensate for the future lowering?

Just a purely street car at this point, with SC&C uppers/Stage 2, CPP tubular lower arms...

Thanks

You could run just a hair less positive caster, but not much... maybe 1/2deg.

*edit* corrected my statement... you will gain +caster by lowering the rear

Yeah, I figured with some quick Trig, that dropping the rear by 2" will increase caster by about 1 degree... But not sure how camber or toe will be affected, but it doesn't look to be much... Just trying to decide if I should go a little low or high on the specs...

I am looking at:

-1/2 to -3/4 degree of camber

+4.5 to +5 degrees of caster

1/16" toe-in...

Camber and toe will not be affected in any kind of material way. Set them the way you want them and drive.

Won't it transfer a little weight from the front towards the rear? Thereby affecting the camber and toe?

Not by any amount that would effect anything... alignments aren't rocket science, or even need to be all that precise.

Thanks...

yeah, I just wanted to be sure to get the benefits of my alignment specs/SC&C Stage 2 setup... I was a little worried that by increasing the caster, with a set amount of negative camber, will cause the tires to toe-out as the spindle tilts back... But I guess its pretty negligible

You will get a measurable amount of front caster change by lowering the rear 2" but it will be positive so I wouldn't worry about it unless you are already running a ton of caster. I did a quick calculation and with a 116" wheelbase, lowering the back 2" tilts the spindle just under a degree. The amount of toe change is so minimal, it would hardly be measurable....
