can I fit 15x9s on the front of my 70 Chevelle? I want to run a 235/60 up front WITHOUT tire bulge, and the fattest wheel for that tire is 235. How fat can you fit up front? WHAT backspacing do I use with the 15x9?

I'm planning to run a 255/45 or 275/40 tire on 17x9 wheels w/5" backspace on the front of my 69 El Camino. However,a 235 would be stretched quite a bit on a 9" rim. If it were my car,I would probably bump it up to a 255,at least.
Just my opinion,though.

When I use to have 235/60's on my 72 chevelle I used a 15x7 and I did'nt have any side wall bulge, like clint said if you use a 15x9 with a 235/60 the tire would be stretched quite a bit. I would use a 15x7 and if I remember correctly my backspacing with that size wheel and tire como was 4 1/4, as for the biggest tire you can run on the front I would think around a 255/60 would be close to the limits with a 15 inch wheel.

thanks for the posts. I double checked on the wheel sizes for the Dunlop Qualifier 235/60 tire and it says 7-9" wheels. So, what is wrong with fitting a 9.25 inch tire on a 9 inch wheel? I has also reconsidered the wheel size. I am still sticking with the 235/60 tire but I have decided to go to a 15x8 wheel instead. ONE LAST question: what backspacing for the front 15x8? 4.5"?
