1971 malibu 350. I am just getting started taking my velle to the track and found some very cheap slicks on ebay. The size is 27x10x15 and I am not sure if they will fit with 7" rims. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My suspension is just restored in the rear and will have coil spring airbags. I do not think the airbags make the tire clearance any different.

I would think a 10" slick would not fit on a 10" rim. Best bet is to call one of the mail order shops and ask.

the 27x10s WILL fit in the stock fender well. However, you cannot run 10" slicks on a 10" wheel. This is mainly due to the fact that slicks are used at such low PSI and that they will no stay seated to a 10" wheel. I am going to run 15x8s with my 10" slicks. That is the size that I recommend using. backspaing on the 15x8s shoudl be 4.5". I think the slicks would fit on the 15x7s, but it would definitely bulge on the sides a bit. To get the best "footprint" from the slick- run an 8" wheel. You can find 15x8s in a lot of places.

Thanks for your help. I guess I will try to run the 27x10x15 slicks on the 7" rims if it does not hook good I will try to find some 8". Also do I need tubes in them just to take to the track? They are goodyear eagle 1132 compound tires that are supposedly 50% tread left.

I used to run a 28x11.50 slick from M/T on a 10" rim with a 5" BS and it fit perfectly. What you need to do is find out what the 'bubble to bubble' measurement on this tire is and go from there. Your best bet is an 8" rim, and you can probably even get away with a 10" rim without any problems. I have friends that are using those special 10.5W tires on 14" rims without any problems, but then again, these tires are 31 & 33" tall with a sidewall of 14.5" wide.
