I have my SC&C uppers installed then got the alignment done and I was wondering how much thread is recommended or ok to have showing on the arms?

Thanks

I recall the instructions saying no more than 1". I believe this was at each end, not cumulative.

You need to call Marcus and verify though. That's what he's there for!

This is from the instructions with mine:
"There should never be more than 1" of thread showing past the tightened down jam nuts on either end of both adjusting tubes"
Hope it helps.

slightly off topic (and a bit of a hijack), but do I need to speak with Marcus to purchase items?

Keith is also very helpful and can take your order as well.

Maybe things have changed in the past few months, but, after 3 attempts, I couldn't get in touch with anyone there a few months ago when I was putting together my front suspension.
I could understand phone tag...but there was no tag.
I never spoke with anyone there, and after 3 attempts, I gave up.

When I have cash money in my pocket and am ready to buy parts for my car, I don't want to have to chase a guy down to sell them to me...but that's just me.

I ended up going with Global West control arms, and am glad I did now.

-Greg

I don't know what your guys problems are getting a hold of Mark and/or Keith.
But I get at least one of them every time I call. Multiple times a day when we were having CC issues.

PS: My instructions say the same, +1", and the parts are very nice.
I showed my buddy, a 21 year veteran of suspension and brake tuning, and he was in awe.

I've read several posts out here from guys who say he's hard to get hold of.
As I said, after 3 attempts it was no longer worth it to me.

I left a message and got a call back in a few days. Once I got him on the phone, I didn't know if I was going to get him off of it. I think they are pretty good guys to work with. I would have been real happy if they would have told me I need to trim my upper control arm mounts when I purchased the SPC uppers. I took my frame to get powder coated after I ordered the parts. After $500 dollars of powder coating and 3 weeks of waiting on parts, now I get to cut on my fresh frame. :(

Ive said this before but before you complain about modifying your frame after you painted it, WHY DONT YOU TEST FIT THE PARTS?!?! So you wait a bit more to have it done. Thats a rookie move and not their fault.

Would you be upset if you bought wheels that didnt fit your car and you just assumed that they would so you painted the car and had to trim or modify the car after? Theres no excuse for doing that. THAT IS YOUR FAULT!!!!

Marcus is good people and shouldnt be the target of any complaint. Hes busy giving the highest level of service to every customer and when you catch him he'll give you that time as well.

Regardless, custom parts should be fitted prior to final paint and assembly. Anyone who doesnt pre fit EVERY part on the car prior to finish painting it or coating or chroming is obviously not experienced enough to complain.

Sorry its the truth. Actually Im not sorry its just the truth.

Marcus is a very nice guy and very helpful. But it is more than difficult to test fit a suspension component on a bare frame that is not loaded with weight from the vehicle and drive train. I didn't really want to assemble my car then take it apart again to check clearence on the upper control arms. These are not one off custom pieces. They have been used several times and it would make sense to make buyers aware of the known issues up front when they are considering purchasing items. I'm definately not trying to slam Marcus, I think he is a great guy and I'm sure he's busy. I am more than happy with the parts and service I have received. I was just implying that a heads up would have been nice. I don't think it is rookie to expect to be informed of known issues with tried parts.

Thats where you are wrong. First they are custom pieces. They change geometry and where the actual parts sit. Second I am fully aware that its hard to load the suspension without preassembly of the full car. This is why you will see car builders put a full car together in bare metal and make adjustments as necessary. Then once everything fits and all issues are handled, you break the car down and paint and finish everything then reassemble it.

This method takes twice as long but if done right, the final assembly phase has every component fitted with proper clearance, brackets, holes ect in place. Just because you are not a pro doesnt mean you get to do a full body off build without going through the same process as the big boys.

I have learned quite a while ago that if its not original to the car (Like it wasnt installed by GM back in the day on YOUR car) then you cant assume itll fit perfect. This goes for reproduction parts as well. Anything that is defenitely custom comes with the implied statement that you should fit it to the car before painting or other final assembly procedures are commenced.

I dont wanna come off as a jerk cause this should be a learning experience for all but when you put items on your car that were never offered on an original there is no implied guarantee of fit. Thats up to you to make sure it fits your car before you paint stuff.

Heres a great example, say you buy a set of motor mount adapters to bolt in an LSx engine in. Everything fits great but you never installed all the accessories to the motor. So you assume youre good and pull the frame apart for powder coat. Once you get it back you stab in the motor and go to install the AC compressor in its stock location but whats wrong?? Well you didnt check to see if the AC compressor would want to live 4 inches inside your frame crossmember. Now you have to pull the motor and cut and plate in a big notch for the AC to fit.

Now whose fault is it that you didnt check to see if the AC compressor would fit or not? The motor mount adapter company or you?

I hope this makes it clear.

agreed.
I don't think there has EVER been a part that bolts on without any issues. Even the ones who advertise, "will bolt on with no issues".

I have called SC&C twice, got Marc the first time and Kieth the second, Kieth took a message and said he would have Marc call me back this was at 4:30 he said it might not be anymore that day. I told him no problem, no hurry, at 7:00 I got a call from Marc...talked till 8:30. I'm more than impressed with the customer service and his knowledge of these cars is second to no one I have ever met. I used to race dirt cars back in the 80's and have been to chassis and suspension seminars before, this guy is every bit as sharp as any one instructing those seminars....and they cost money, he was free....well not exactly I bought a bunch of parts. :D:D
