: 295/50 in the back...but what up front?
Jayfrye Jan 26th, 03, 2:04 PM I need some help here. I have a Big Block 70 Velle. I just purchased some Chrome Ralleys...15x10 and 15X7. I intend to put the lower profile 295/50/15 out back. I am unsure, however, of what tire I should put up front. I do intend to drop the car about 1-1.5" to give it a more aggressive stance. I have considered a 215/60, 225/60 and 235/60. Can someone offer some suggestions and/or combos that accentuate the stance of my car.
Matt Leuck Jan 26th, 03, 3:05 PM I have 295/50's on the rear of my '71, with 235/60's on the front. Here is a pic from a rear angle (http://chevelles.com/showroom/Matt_Leuck/IMG_0075nSmalln.JPG), and in my sig there is a pic from a front angle. Hope this helps.

Clint44 Jan 26th, 03, 6:15 PM Do you want a level stance or a hot rod rake?
How tall a tire do you want to run on the front?

Jayfrye Jan 27th, 03, 12:08 AM Clint I would prefer a slightly raked look. As for tire height, I dont really know what would be comparable and still look good. I know the 295/50 is 26.8" and a 235/60 os 26.11". Now with those numbers and taking into account the weight the engine carries, this may give me a slight rake...but I worry that 235/60 would be a bit too wide.
1966_L78 Jan 27th, 03, 1:23 PM I run with 265-50/15 up front, but mines a 66 so I am not sure on clearances for yours...

rustedpig Jan 27th, 03, 11:34 PM I'm at the same decision point myself. I'm getting 15x8 295x50R15 in the back, and I'm thinking about getting 15x8 245x50x15 in the front. Right now I have the same on the back, but 15x7 235x50R15 on the front. They look great but I'm going for handling this time around.
LXXVI Feb 5th, 03, 8:32 PM On my 68' I'm putting 15x8 rims with 4-1/2" Backspacing, and 265/50/15s (Cooper Cobras). I still got meat and I can even rotate them too!

Kevs68 Feb 6th, 03, 5:05 PM If you think a 235/60 is to wide but want the same height then go with a 215/65. If your gonna lower the car at least an inch and 1/2 then I would go with the 225/60. I think the 225/60 being about an inch shorter then the 295 would give you the right rake and stance.
rustedpig Feb 6th, 03, 6:30 PM I currently have 295/50 on the back, and 235/50 up front. I am putting on 255s on the front this weekend. I will post some pictures once that is done.
Stikman33 Feb 6th, 03, 7:58 PM You guys with 295/50 on back, what is your backspacing exactly and is it a 8 or 10 in rim. I am doing this project myself and don't want to have any rubbing issues.
Daniel
rustedpig Feb 6th, 03, 11:51 PM My backspacing on my previous set of wheels were 3.5'' bs, and a -20 offeset. I had a rubbing problem with that. Switched to 4.5bs, and no offset... works beautiful. They're on 15x8s btw.

Bob B. Feb 7th, 03, 9:11 PM My 70 had 245/60-15 on a 7" Trans Am aluminum wheel, and the car was dropped about 2" no problems. If I remember correctly I even had the same tire on a 8" ralley wheel with no problems.

I run the widended rally 15x10 with a 5.5 backspace with just a pair of pliers style wheel well lip roll. No rubbing and looks pretty good. Go to Stockton wheel or Pete Paulson in Lathrop out here in the valley areas. I only paid $100 for both rears bare so I can paint them myself, not a bad deal.
