: wrench for SC&C uppers???
1966_L78 May 20th, 10, 1:36 PM Just wondering what to use on the SC&C upper arms... the "turnbuckles" on mine are 1.06+ inches (a 1" wrench does NOT fit...)...
I thought about getting an AN wrench (I think -10), but from what I have been able to determine, that might be a little too large...
I guess its an adjustible wrench, but I am worried about what that will do to the finish...
Any suggestions?
Also, should I used some loctite (red?) on the jamb nuts?
Thanks
Scotch May 20th, 10, 1:57 PM I put tape over them before using an adjustable wrench.
No scratches!

Locktite blue will be sufficient for the jambnuts. I've been told Locktite Red is for stuff you never want to loosen and have to apply heat to get it to release.
Derek69SS May 20th, 10, 5:46 PM I don't loctite them.. I adjust them way too often. ;)
On mine, a 1" wrench fits on 3 of them, and one is a little tight. I scratched that one up a little jamming the 1" wrench over it, but I do all the adjusting from the outside where you can't see the scratches with inner fenders in place.
1966_L78 May 20th, 10, 6:51 PM Thanks... Yeah, I was planning on taping them up too... I am going to end up having a shop do the alignment for now, and I wanted to make sure there were no issues... I tried the wrench and thought "uh oh"...
But so far, the shop looked at the arms and said no problem, just a basic alignment and charge, $55 for the front ( still set using the rears for thrust angle, etc) and $85 for front/rear (if I had adjustible lowers in the rear). And no problems doing them to MY specs ( just have to find the SC&C papers)...
Another shop wanted more money than a standard alignment, because there weren't used to those arms...
Eventually, I'd like to get the Fastrax, but for now, I doubt I'll be adjusting then for a few years... I was almost going to get one from Summit, as I have a discount code, but they are out of stock... And I really haven't had much time to play with it lately...
tunedbytad May 20th, 10, 10:16 PM put some mobil1 suspension grease on the threads on assembly and you can turn them by hand on the alignment rack!
put painters taple on an over sized wrench it does not take much to turn them.
41565chevelle May 21st, 10, 6:11 AM How about locating some aircraft nuts the same size (helicopter parts) with the holes in them to safety wire them together. The wire cuts easily to adjust and it is super easy to re-wire them when you are done. Do it on EVERY part of the helicopters we fly...it works!
fasteddies68 May 21st, 10, 8:30 AM A 27 M.M. wrench may work for you. They would measure 1.074. Be better than rolling the nuts corners off.

Thanks...
Sorry, I meant 1.006 inch (I was going from memory, measured the night before the post)...
After reading Derek's reply, I went out and remeasured... 1.011" to 1.014" ( ~ 25.7 mm)... Its just the aluminum extrusions, the nuts are all ~1-1/8" ( hair under)
Tad, thanks for the suggestion... I wasn't too worried about turning/adjustment. More worried about tightening them down. i figured the tech will probably put one wrench on the nut and the other of the extrusion...

I have never had one come loose or un adjust on me.
Very Very happy with my SC&C uppers have them on both cars.
