Hey folks....it's been in the works for years. I finally got around to prepping and paint. This is my first shot at this paint business. Here's a few pix. I think I can only upload 7 at a time. I'll get the next 4 with a reply to this....

Yes, first time. Thanks. It's single stage Valspar Polyurethane 840 series stuff. I have an old friend that showed my how to prep and paint. You know....prep is the tough part. It's not show by far, but plently good for me. If you look at the left side of the hood stripe on the inside part near the front, you'll see where I messed up. The other parts of the stripe came out pretty good.

Thanks Al, Things take time to do it how you want it. I took my ElCamino to AZ to my old highschool friends body shop for a repaint and one thing led to another as hidden damage was uncovered in stripping the old paint off. The floor was repaired half ass when I bought her in 89' and now I am having them put a new one piece complete floor panel in. Oh and that has to go in from the bottom so a frame off and frame paint is in order. I miss her and cant wait to get her back to Texas so I can put her big block and Tremec and Ford 9 inch in. Patience Is hard to come by but we will both get them back to the highway soon.:)

Thanks Randy....painting really helps put the project into overdrive. I guess it's just another phase like when I finished rebuilding my M21 then my L78. I've had ups and downs with it over the years. I try and do little things to it every week. It's all very expensive and time consuming for me. The folks on this site and a few others have been an enormous help over the years. I don't imagine it'll ever end. :D

Tom....yah...I do like the color. It'll have a gold top and saddle bucket interior too per cowl tag. It was white with a root beer brown metallic stripe when I bought it back in '78.

Right on, Craig. It sure does. I see where you're coming from. I really got lucky with my Elco 's body. There was only some rust on the back sides of the fenders. I got all that and painted it all black. I can't imagine what I'd do, if I had to replace the floor panel. Ahhhh...patience....now there's a word I ponder. :beers:

Sounds like the txcamino is gonna be smokin' the pavement soon.

Is that a single stage? Or did you use a base and clear? You can see just a little orange peel. Looks great though for your first time.

Hi Trey,

Thanks. Good eyes! Yes, it is single stage. I like the orange peel look and meant to leave it that way. I like that factory look. I hit the stripe edges just right when I pulled up the stencil kit. You can feel the black edges. It's smooth and not rough at all without having to buff. The edges formed just perfect. I really got lucky. When I pulled the kit up, the black was still a little wet - about 20 minutes after spraying. A little buffing was done to remove the scuffing for the stripe, but not much was needed. I really am happy with it. Again, it's not a show job, but it's something that'll last me for a long, long time. :)

I also like the orange peel look I didn't do it to mine and it gives it a resto-mod look rather than original. The biggest problem I had is getting the aftermarket cowl hood to sit flat. I may have to buy another and try again. Did you fit yours first?

I had to look hard lol. I look at enough paint ever week so I kind of have an eye for it lol :D. I personally like single stage, especially, if its not a show car. Its easy to lay, and usually turns out great. Back in 05, We had my 93 miustang gt shot with a single stage vibrant red. I was really pleased with it, and it won several car shows, including Autorama in 08. The stripes look as good as mine. The edges on my stripes have so much clear on them, that they are totally smooth. It is a shocker to most people. All in all it looks like it turned out great, and if you are pleased with it, thats all that matters. Congrats again :)
