I'm doing the tall spindle conversion on my 65 Malibu right now, and that drops your car about 1-1.5" (so I'm told). I was planning on getting Hotchkis or Eibach springs all the way around to drop it another 1" or so.

My question is: will putting these springs on cause any clearance problems with 17" rims? I don't want to get the springs on only to find out that I'm too low to turn the wheels and just wasted $130 on springs. Would it be better to just get stock springs from someone like Moog?

I put Hotchkis 1" drop springs on my 1967 Chevelle. I love how it dropped it in the rear, But they don't really drop it too far in the front. I don't think you'll have a problem, I have plenty of room

My cars dropped 6 inches in the front and 5 in the rear.(I measured it before and after to the center of the headlights) With my new 17's I do have a clearance problem, but it was very minor and with a little fabrication I came out in the clear. With the Hotchkiss 1.5" springs I think you'll have more than adequete clearance with your 17's, heck even I'd have enough clearance if I wasnt running 17x8's in the front! Stick with a 17x7 with 4 inches of backspacing for the widest front rim and you'll be stylin'.
Good Luck!
