: 16x8 Tire Size

I am thinking about getting some new wheels and tires for my 70 El Camino. Right now, I'm leaning towards the Torq-Thrust D style wheels in 16x8. They have a 4 inch backspace.

I was wondering if anyone is running these wheels and what size tires work well. I'm looking for something that will really grip well in mostly dry conditions. I don't drive much in the wet (this is Phoenix after all), but it would be nice to be able to safely. What's the biggest tire I can fit in the front without any rubbing? I'll be doing the B-Body spindle swap eventually and I'm just trying to get an idea of what I'm going to need (tire wise) to really make it handle.

Thanks in advance!
Ryan

Just a suggestion but I would look hard at 17"s,instead. Much larger selection of tires to choose from in many different aspect ratios.

On my '68, I'm using 255/50/16 Dunlop 8000 Tires on Torq-Thrust II wheels with 4.75" backspace.

The Dunlop's were the lowest treadwear rating I could find (which means soft and sticky) for a daily driver radial. I think the rating was 200.

So far they have performed great. No complaints. Purchased from Tirerack.com.
