Well i got a 66 chevelle and was wondering what backspacing should i get when i buy some 15x10 for the rear. I herd anywhere from 5.25 to 5.5 so any info will help.

what size tire are you going to run? I have a buddy with a 1967 SS, He has 175X10 and has a 285 tire back there, He's pushed the limit!!! He has 5 1/4" back spacing

Not entirely sure on 15X10s, but I would think more toward the 5.5 BS

I run BFG 295-50/15 on 15X8 rims... No lip mods, but its pretty tight... I forget the offset I have...

I really dont know what size tire to run right now. I was thinking of running maybe a 5.5 BS and a 295/50/15. thanks for the info.

Hate to be a party-pooper but I'm not sure a 15x10 wheel w/5.5" backspace will fit a 66-67,,especially with 295 tires. Might not be a bad idea to do some serious measuring, first.

I always thought that 66-67 Chevelle wheelwells had less room than a 68-72. Is everything stock on your 66,including the stock-width rear end?

yep, everything bone stock except the poly bushings.

As I said above, I run 15X8 rims , but with the 295/50-15s also, and they also fit with no mods to the lip, stock early 12-bolt, stock wheelwell trim, even used to be lowered very low... I did have to get rims with a custom offset, because stock GM 15X8 rallys are offset wrong for this application...

I know the 10 inch rim is wider, but it shouldn't affect the overall width of the tread and the widest portion of the tire...

I too have heard that 1968 and up have a bigger wheel well, so I guess they can fit even larger tires...

Don't know about the 66' but on my 71' I have 17x10 with 5.5 bs running 295/45/17. There is not 1/4" to spare on the inside or outside of the tires.

I finnaly ordered 295/50R15's for my 70 elky this week, they came intoday... mounted on my 15x8 centerlines (4.5 bs?) WON't FIT! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

It was like a cruel tease too, since i got to see the tires mounte on my car (looked bad ass)
When they let the jack down, the fener lip was right on the tire- no fender rolling could help this it was just waaaay to wide. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

So i guess... I'm gonna get new rims. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif Screw the settling with tires i don't like business- i'm gonna get what i want... 15x10 in back 15x8 up front... Now i just need to talk to KAA(he has it this way on his 70 elky) to get the BS and Offsets from his rims!

Use the 15x8's on front with a smaller tire and get some 15x10's with 5.5" backspacing.
That should fix you up.

I'm leaning toward a 15x8 with a 4 1/2 backspace and a 275-60 on the rear and a 15x7 4 backspace and a 215-70 on front for my 67. I researched it and found this to be a nice combo.

5 & 1/2"rearspace on 15x10

4 & 1/2"rearspace on 15x8

The center is still the same, you just add an inch to the front and an inch to the rear.

what about us guys with 66-67s using the 68up 12 bolts?

how does the difference in rear end width affect the backspacing?
