I bought the hooker 2455-1 a long time ago. Im finally starting to mock up the car after many set backs. I am wondering if i bought too large of a diameter, or do i have the wrong motor mounts? Its a big block going in a 71. http://www.chevelles.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=30619&stc=1&d=1273849297

It must be the way hooker makes them. I don't remember my part #, but on my 1969 chevelle big block i had to dent mine in to clear the steering shaft. And i think they rubbed in other spots too. And they hung so low they were always scraping and getting dented underneath. Ended up giving them away and getting shorty headers. That made me much, much happier.

good luck....I had 2" super comps on my '68, they hang too low, they rubbed on everything, they are just plain horrible.....

Which headers work best without alot of mods to make them work?

you may need to put a slight clearance on the tube by the steering shaft
a buddy has these on his 70-bbc car and they fit pretty good, but hang low.
i have them on mine and there were many areas that had to be modified on the upper+lower control arms+bolts+frame and they hang way to low on a non-lowered car
these headers are the biggest PITA + POC i have ever put on one of my cars....... :(
do a search on the site and i think most people recommend the Headman Elite units for economical headers that fit, but the pipe is 1 7/8'' i think....
