I just bought a remanufactured carter AFB. It has a big brass adjustment screw between the two idle mixture screws. Does anyone know what that screw is for and what is good ball park adjustment for that screw.

Some AFB's came with that screw. It is the Idle Air Speed Screw. http://www.corvettefever.com/techarticles/corp_1003_corvette_carburetor_rebuild/photo_26.html
I'm not sure about the adjustment procedure.

I did some more research out of curiosity on the NCRS website. One application for that carb ( with the Idle Air S.S. ) was on the '63 Corvette 327/ 300hp eng. It appears the screw was used to fine tune the transfer slots to eliminate a stumble/ hesitation when going from idle to the low speed circuit.
