looking at installing 17x9.5 w/5.5 b/space w/
275-40 on rear with a 1/2 drop and 17x8 w/4.5
b/space w/245-45 w/ 1" drop. Has any body tried this and what if any problems can i expect, any help app. thanks, Rob...

I have 17's on my 68.
The rears are 17x9.5 w 5.5"bs, 315/35's.
The fronts are 17x8 w 5" bs, 255/45
No cutting or rolling.
The rears are really tight though.

I have 17" x 10" on the rear with 285/40's the fronts are 17" x 8" with 255/45's
Rears are very tight but no rubbing.

You really need a 17x11 wheel for those 315 tires as a 9.5" wide rim is way too narrow.
Either that or try a 285/40/17 tire next time. If you run poly bushings to keep the rear's lateral play down,a 17x11 rim with 6" backspacing and 315 tire will fit a 68-72 rear wheelwell,albeit a little snugly.

You should not have any problems with that set-up. You could even drop it a lot more w/o problems.
