: Dropping 2" on 275/60-15's in the rear

I have 275's on the rear of a 71 Chevelle with no offset and I'd like to drop the car down a couple of inches.

It rides at the top of the tires now and it looks like it will clear the lip of the wheel well but rub on the inner wheel well if I drop it.

Any advise ?

Thanks !

They appear to be 15X10's. A 3" dep trim ring fits on with a lot of room to spare.

The options are limited. Either clearance the wheelwell edge or get different rims. A 15x10 rim isn't necessary for a 275 tire. A 15x8 would be better. Go with a 4.5" backspacing and the tire should be tucked in far enough to drop the rear.

Exactly what I was going to say Larry. I have a 71 with 15x8's with 4.5 backspace running 285/60/15 McCreary street/strip tires that just make the outside wheel well. If I run less then 20 lbs. in 'em they tend to rub in the corners a tad. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/tongue.gif

I'll get into this a little more this weekend to find out exactly what I have and what I nned to do.

I appreciate the input everyone !

I believe I would go with the maximum backspacing possible at about 5.5 inches with a 15 inch wheel. (Check this spec with a search in this thread.) The clearance conflict will be the lower shock mount.
