The car you are referring to is known as the Redline Oil Chevelle. You'll find some pics of it at www.pro-touring.com. (http://www.protouring.com.) look under the Hotchkis track day event. You may also find pics and info about the car at Popular Hot Rodding website (www.popularhotrodding.com) Here is a reply to an email I sent to Redline regarding those wheels:

"The car uses an Alston Fab 9 rear end that bolts up to the stock
mounting
points, there is no fender rub. The fender wells have not been cut or
removed, nor has the frame been narrowed or tubs installed. I believe
the
rear spacing is the same as the stock housing, it is possible the
control
arm mounting points have been moved in for clearance. You could check
with
Chris Alston for any spacing differences.

The Front rims are => 17X8 with 4 inch offset
The front tires => 255-45 X 17

The Rear rims => 17X11 with 6.25 inch offset
The rear tires 315-35 X 17

The shocks and springs are Hotchkis items, their phone number is (562)
907-7757 or WWW.HOTCHKIS.NET. (http://WWW.HOTCHKIS.NET.)

Red Line Oil"

Do a search for 17x11 or 315/35/17 and you'll find more info about mounting these on your car, I believe a few people on this board have successfully mounted 17x11 or 18x10's on their A bodies. Regarding offset, from everything I have read what works for one car may not work for another so make sure to take some measurements before you order those wheels.
Oh, and post some pics after you get them.

I have 315/35/17's on my 68.
The rims I have are only 9.5" wide. Probaly too small as for as what is recommended. I think 10's would work too.
The backspacing is 5.5". 5.25" might be better. Rubs inner slightly on a hard turn.
The total outside width of the tire is 12 1/8" wide.
No cutting or fab work.

I have 18 X 10.5 wheels with 6 inch backspacing on my 70 GTO. I am using 295/45/18 tires. Looks just right. Most people do not even realise that I have 18 inch wheels. Here is a pic

Damn sweet. Any mods to make them fit? Rolled the fender lip? Relocated shock mounts? Im really looking at 18's on my SS but getting all the suspension together right now and rims are my last shabang.

but hot damn that goat is raw dog. I remember the pics form a while back but never saw that shot. Shes one sexy SOB.

Hey guys,
I just mounted my new Intro Pentia's the rears are 17" x 10" 5.5" bacckspace. I am running Nitto 555r Drag Radials 285/40/17.
They fit like OJ Simpsons gloves... TIGHT.
There is no rubbing, but another .25" in either direction and there would be trouble!

Regards,

Thanks for the compliments guys. The only mod that was done was rolling the fender lip. However, its really not needed. The rims and tires would have fit without rolling the lip. Everything else is in the stock location. I am using global west lower control arms in the back and HAL shocks. The larger wheels makes it possible to go with 6 or even 6.25 inches of backspacing without hitting the lower shock mount. Just one other note. If you are considering going with 18s, make sure you get tires that have plenty of sidewall. The 295/45/18s are 28 inches tall. In the front the tires are 255/45/18s and they are 27 inches tall. Its the only way that 18 look right on a Chevelle or a GTO or any other A body. Various companies make a 295/35/18s, but I think those are about only about 26 inches tall. I think the short sidewall would not look right.
