Does anyone know the torgue settings for 396 water pump? I am installing an aluminum pump and guessing I use factory torque settings? Also should I use RVT with the gaskets? I read 22 FT LBS on the internet.

Water pump 3/8" bolts is 30ft. lbs. torque. You don't need RTV, just a light adhesive on the pump side, IMO.

Thanks Dan, Well I did not get your reply til today and I already put the pump on (and everything else) last night. I asked the Napa guy and he told me to use a thin coat of RTV on both sides of the gaskets. I hand tightened the bolts and let it sit for an hour to cure. I then torqued to 22 FT LBS. I was letting it set up for 24 hrs and ready to add water /coolant tonight. Well should I now retork to 30 FT LBS or let it go with 22? I don't really want to R & R everything again to remount the pump.

I see no reason to disassemble but you might want to re-torque to the proper spec. Dan is right on at 30lbs.

Thanks guys, I retorked to 30 and shes running with no leaks so far. The reason I posted this is the first time, I assembled EVERYTHING I had a leak with no RTV. One gasket had blown. I wasn't happy about the R & R. WOW Dan quite a project!
