I understand that when rally wheels were first introduced in 67, they were a 14 inch rim with a shallow center cap, that said chevrolet motor division (some also said disc brakes). Then a few years later, by 1970 for sure, they made 15 inch rally wheels with the bigger corvette style centre, the one with the ribs and black paint in between ribs. My question;;;will the old shallow center caps fit on 15 inch rally wheels?

They will on genuine GM wheels but won't on some after market wheels.

how can you tell if a rally wheel is genuine GM or aftermarket. I am looking to buy some 15x7 rallys, the 67-72 style with the 5 oval slots. What do I ask the sellers to confirm it is genuine GM wheel and these flat style rally caps will fit.

Yes the flat caps will fit 15 inch wheels, and some aftermarket stuff...

I have factory flat caps on my 1966 Chevelle with 15X7 GM rims up front, and 15X8 Wheel Vintiques rims out back. No problems...

I think the flat caps were only for 1967, then the taller style (Derby) for 1968 and up...
