: Where can i find my backspacing??????????
BigBlock71 Sep 21st, 02, 7:27 PM I am about to buy new rims, and i don't know what the backspacing for the front wheels is. I got a 71 chevelle. If you know, or know where i can find this information, please let me know ASAP. Thanks

bulb122 Sep 22nd, 02, 10:54 AM take one of the wheels you have off and measure it. The back spacing is the measurement from the inside bead lip, to the wheel mounting surface.
If you don't have a wheel to measure, then I can't really help. I can tell you though, that depending on rim width and tire width, more than one backspacing will fit. Different b/s will look different though. Maybe the tire shop can help you buy trying out a couple different ones for you?

Larry Sep 23rd, 02, 1:13 PM Most, if not all, of the major hot rod wheel manufacturers state to measure backspacing from the back rim edge to the mounting surface....not from the inner bead lip.
In any case, like the pic shows, put a straightedge across the back of the rim and measure down to the mounting flange. This method is very widely accepted.
Glenn1018 Sep 23rd, 02, 4:23 PM Larry's right. He taught me the same lesson a few months ago.
Here's what had me confused. If you have an 8" wheel, the backspacing and the frontspacing will add up to about 9". The 1/2" lips that the weights are on are included in those measurements, but not in the advertised wheel width. Just keep that in mind when ordering.

Larry Sep 24th, 02, 1:14 PM I'll just throw in one more thing: verify that whoever you're going to buy wheels from measures backspacing the same way. Like I said, just about all manufacturers measure from the rim edge, but check to make sure.
