Hello Everyone!

I am hunting for a trailer hitch for my 1965 El Camino. I have had many companies (U-Haul and other online retailers) turn me away stating there are no trailer hitches for my car.

:(

But... I was just thinking.... Why don't I ask the real pro's here on Chevelles.com!

Anyone know of any companies that make custom trailer hitches... or anyone out there willing to sell one?

Originally I was working on my grandfathers Classic 65 Lido 14 sailboat... I replaced the transom, repainted, and restored... the only problem was that I did not have a vehicle to tow it!

That's when I decided to start working on my dad's 65 El Camino... After sooo much effort of getting it on the road and looking somewhat nice, I found out how hard it is to find a tow hitch.

Summer is coming and I desperately want to take the sailboat out..

Please help.

Thanks,

Aaron

Most welding job shops can fabricate a trailer hitch.
Don't know how much it would cost in your area; around here pretty cheap.

I just finished converting a class III Reese hitch to my 1966 El Camino. It was originally designed for a whole bunch of mid sized SUVs. Took bout two hours but with a bit of cutting and welding it fits like a glove. I have set by step photos of the project.

I'm interested in one too, but your pictures don't work. Please try again.

My 64 had one on it when I got it 20 years ago. Nothing special, probably some 1/2" x 3" plate welded together. Worked ok for towing a 5x8 uhaul trailer 800 miles when I moved out of my parents house. I wouldn't want to put much more than that behind it though.

I have one that was bolted to the frame of my 65 when I first got the car. Guy towed a Saturn from Oregon to Indy behind the 65.

Free to anyone that wants it.

PM me with any info or requests.

I have a NOS trailer hitch and wiring harness for a 65. The hitch is very light duty, attaching to the rear crossmember and bumper brace at the license plate. The load is split unequally between the crossmember and the bumper/brackets. Might be suitable for pulling a small yard trailer carrying a lawn mower or tiller. You get the idea.

IMO, you would be better off welding up something that attaches to the frame rails and has the strength necessary to pull your boat.

Sorry... it's been a while since I last visited this site.. busy with work andm stuff. Thanks for your replies... I actually had a local muffler shop custom make one for me for $300 plus tax.. I didn't use it yet, and I need to install the wire harness, but it is almost complete.

Thanks again.
