my old aftermarket rear wheels are 8"wide with 3 3/4" back-spacing.i have about 3.5" of space between the backside of my wheel and the frame.will i have trouble fitting a 10" wheel with 5.5" back-space or should i get a wheel with less back-spacing? it looks like i could run a wider tire with less back-spacing than 5.5".i'm new at this. thanks for any suggestions.

And the car is??? Wheel size has a lot to do with what it'll clear as far as backspacing goes. Example, a 15" wheel with 5" of backspacing may not clear things like shock mounts where a 17" or 18" wheel would.

my car is a 73 chevelle.i have 14"aftermarket wheels and the rear wheels are 8"wide.i want to go to a 15" wheel that is 10" wide.i measured the best i could and it looks like i have about 3 1/4"max between the backside of the tire and the frame.the frame seems to be closer to the tire than any shock mounts.(coil springs).i guess if i go to the 10" wide wheel i'll go with 4.5" back-spacing instead of 5.5" to allow a little more inside room.

Tire size also affects which wheel is needed... Not only tire clearance with the body, etc, but what rim size is needed for the certain tire...
