: Need 15x8 3 off?

I'm installing a 65 12 bolt in my 70, it's about 2" narrower. I have stock original 15x7 rally wheels, seem to be about 4.25 offset. Looks like they'll fit OK, little close on the inside. So, I want to move to 8" rims, (reason why I went to the narrower axle in the first place)I see a lot of them are 4.5--4.75, but Wheel Vintiques has Series 30 15x8 with 4" offset, $70, is this about right? see http://www.wheelvintiques.com/cat2002.PDF , which is a large .PDF Acrobat file. A little further down the page is the Series 38 multi-bolt-pattern 15x8 4 off, it's only $50. Any good reason to not to save the $20/wheel?

I think what I really need is a 3" offset, but nobody has it that I can find. But when I think about it, it seems like 15x8x4 is like what I have, but all the extra wideness is to the outside, which is what I need, right?

Opinions, guesses, laughter, smart remarks, all are welcome.

The difference in width between early and later rear ends is exactly 1", 1/2" per side. If you go with the 4" offset you will be fine.

Do you mean offset or backspacing?

Backspacing and offset use different wheel width dimensions (just to make it easy for us).

For example, a 15x8 with 0 offset has the mounting pad (the side that contacts the drum) in the center of the wheel. This wheel will have 4.5" backspacing, and 4.5" frontspacing. I know that adds up to 9", but back/frontspacing measurements include the 1/2 lip on the rim (the part the weights are on).

Negative offset means that more than half of the width (8" in this case) is towards the fender. That is a 15x8 with 1" negative offset will have 3.5" backspacing and 5.5" frontspacing.

Hope this helps.
