Anybody have an idea on how I can modify my seat brackets to allow for a little more leg room in my '67 with bucket seats. I'm 6'2" and need a little more room. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ernie,
May try a search in this forum. There is a guy (Dave aka Bowtie70ss) who is 6'6". He may give you some great advice on what to do. I'm 6'4" and can fit pretty well into my '72. :beers:

Thanks for the info guys.... I wonder if I should just leave it alone? Sounds like some pretty crazy modifications were made to a few of those cars. I'd love to see a picture of the mods, if anyone has any. Thanks again, Ernie

Ernie, I also am 6"2" , on my 67 buckets I unbolted the tracks from the seats then I moved the track as far foward as I could to me allow a new hole to be drilled through the track and be re-bolted to the seat , then on the rear area i got some flat stock to extend the track to the mounting hole on the seat.I used a 3/8"bolt with a 3/8" nylon locking nut to attatch the flat stock to the track and the original bolt for the other side of the stock to the seat.I believe this gave me about 1 1/2' more which made a huge difference with minimal effort . I also used a shallower steering wheel which added some some comfort as well. I can get some pics later in the week. It was very easy.JOHN

^ the top pic is the one with the added metal ( near the front of the seat ), the second is the one with the hole drilled about 1 1/2" away from the original , you could probably get another 1/2 " if needed which I may do as well , JOHN

John, Thanks for taking the time to take the pics for me! I've got a pretty good idea of what you did there. I will send the pics to the guy that is doing my restoration and see what he thinks he can do with them. Ernie

got it up to 3 " more of leg room , added a 4 1/2" piece of flat stock at the rear side of the tracks , toward the front I had to drill a new hole in the seat frame and used a nut and bolt instead of the factory threaded hole , did have to drill a new hole at the track front but not too close as to prevent the rollers in the track from working, had to cut the track toward the front of the seat to allow the side covers to be re-installed needed to drill a new hole for the seat return springs and had to install a shorter spring on the drivers side for the release lever JOHN

I am 6'4" and fit in my 66 with buckets and I fit pretty. But I would not want to move the seat back any more b/c as it is now to reach the shifter in 1 st ,and 3 rd I have lean foward.

A bit off-topic here, but for those of us looking to get a little more comfortable in our cars many times I hear of people wanting more head room. I solved this in my '71 with buckets by simply removing the hard rubber "stoppers" which the seatback rests against, and making a new set using hard-durometer rubber strip. The originals are .500" thick and I made new ones .250" thick. I couldn't believe the difference...it laid the seat back about 1.5" up at the top. A quick, cheap, simple experiment for those who want to try it.

just reinstalled the seats , if they are all the way back you can see the seat tracks in front of the seat where they mount to the floor .

Sounds like it would be worth a try.... I will do that first and see how it feels. Thanks for the idea!

John, Thanks for the great pics, and marking front and rear of seat! I am going to try the bump stop trick first and if need be resort to the seat track mod. If I can get my belly a little further away from the big ass stock wheel it just might be the trick. My bro in law is 5'6" tall and has to move the seat forward to reach the pedals! I feel like I'm in a car made for a midget when I'm in the damn thing!!

A few pics of the seats after I got them back from the upholstery shop. The guy did a pretty nice job.

Does it look like crap, or are you ok with it? Ernie

Well if you paint them black they should look ok , mine are rusty being that I didnt do any restoration work on them yet, but I just drove the car 3300 miles on the power tour and was not uncomfortable at all , actually I moved the seat up a few times to get a little different positioning , If you worried what it looks like you can always move your seat up when you get to where people are looking at your seat tracks . I can take a pic if you want also as i mentioned before you can use a shallower wheel , it made a lot of difference. I am going to post some pics on the thread " show me your custom dash ".
