I bought a 71 chevelle with rally wheels on it already, no caps..go figure. what I would like to know is......how can i figure out the size of the rim. the rear tires for example are 245/50/15's. so, i'm assuming the wheels are 15's, but 15 x 6, 7, or 8? thanks in advance for the help..

Cut two straight edges 15 3/4" long. Strudy cardboard or 1 x 2's will work.

Remove the tire/wheel from the car.

Place the straight edges on both sides of the wheel (rim) so the straight edges cross the center, or thereabouts (like a diameter line).
Note: They'll be a little shorter than the entire wheel, and they won't cover the lip that the weights are attached to. Just rest them "in the groove".

Measure the distance between them, and that's it. Probably going to be about 7".

Another note: Advertised wheel (rim) width is about 1" less than actual overall width (which includes the lip). That's why the straight edges shouldn't rest on the lip when you measure.

Tire shops have a big set of outside calipers that they use to measure wheel width (they need to know to balance the tire). If you're car is drivable, I'd just take it in and have them measure it - shouldn't take more than 1 minute...
