i am going to install 12"wide centerline auto drags on the rear of my 73 chevelle with something like 31"tall mickey thompson spotsmans.i am also going to run a narrowed rearend(naturally).instead of installing a subframe i would like to just cut the rear parts of the frame rails where the rearend housing and rear wheels are located and move each rail inward to make room for the wider wheels and to locate the housing attachment points for the narrower rearend.am i thinking in the right direction or is there an easier way to get those monster wheels to fit?thanks for your help.

is there any way you can achieve you goal by just mini tubbing it? thats mooving the wheel wells in to clear the frame and not actually moving the frame. also you dont need to narrow the rear. just move the mounts in and get the right offset rims. if your moving the frame rails in you will have to redo all the suspension. i have not done this. and do not have your year stuff. but i was able to fit 325-50-15s on a 70 chevelle by just hammering the inner wheel wells back to the frame rails and bending the wheel lip up and getting the right back spacing on the rims. i have a tubbed 70 chevelle station wagon. it had all new 4 link suspension and full tubbed frame added, however i did not narrow the rear, just welded the suspension and coilovers on to the rear. that was done so that with the custom offset wheels, does not look deep from the side, but when you see it from the back the tires are almost touching! see my pics on my site of the tubbed wagon. and the 325-50's are on my yellow chevelle.
