I have an aftermarket tach gauge on my 69. The temperature gauge does not have the temperature in degrees. It has "C" and "H" with 8 lines in between just like a fuel gage. What is the temperature at "C" and "H"?

Good question. I have the same set up. Mine would go to H after about 3-4 minutes. But you could lay your hand on the radiator. 3 sending units later (different ohms?)--(I am not an electric guy). I bought one from --- I think it was MD Electric. After telling them my problem and my setup, I got the correct sending unit. All is good now. But it runs just a tad under 1/2. When it gets to 3/4--- it's HOT but not boiling over.
I can look up the company if you would like.
Hope I helped.

Yeah, the temp range on the guage is relative to the sending unit. I have an incorrect sender in my cyl head at the moment, verifying temperatures with an IR thermometer, operating temp on the OE Gauge is right at one mark before H.

I'd like to know who the sender manufacturer is for the unit you're using, Randy. Also if there are any identifying stampings.

They also sell the correct senders.

99Fatboy,
As Hank said, Lectric Ltd. is the right place. Call them and talk to them. They are squared away and very good to work with. No markings on mine. I believe it was the 01513462. And yes that is the correct connection. I also bought the wire lead and correct sheathing from them. Looks and works right.

Good information guys. I did use pipe compound on my sender, and read that is a mistake, although my gage is reading much hotter than the radiator feels. I bought my sender from Ground UP, part number GAC-760. The heat from the headers may also be giving some problems. I am going to buy a sending unit from lectric limited, nice price.

I am still looking to see if anyone knows the temperature value for the range of the temperature gage. For example is the first mark on the cold side of the gage 160 degrees and the last mark on the hot side of the gage 230 degrees? Maybe someone has calibrated this.
