: 68 chevelle rim bolt pattern?
Thunder 68 Jul 30th, 02, 7:16 PM hope you all can help me on this one. what is the stock, original wheel bolt pattern for a 68 chevelle malibu 2 door sport coupe? everything i have seen online says that I should have a 4 3/4"x5 bolt pattern, but instead I have a 4 1/2"x5 pattern. is this how it should be? is everything I have seen wrong? the drums and running gear all appear stock, with no obvious signs of being screwed with. I would restore this car, and would like to at least try to get all the parts and stuff right. thanks for all your help!
Jason

How are you measuring? Your Chevelle should have a 5 lug on a 4.75" bolt pattern.
A 5 on 4.5" is Ford/Mopar wheel.

bill, is this the same backspacing for a 69 chevelle, not an SS. reason, i want to order some american racing wheels and can't figure out the backspacing. will 15 x 7's fit on front and 15 x 8's fit on back? thanks

i meant to say bolt pattern, but since i asked.....
Here is a good reference page for measuring: http://www.wheelvintiques.com/measure.html
As for 69s the bolt pattern is the same in stock form as all other chevelles 5 on 4.75. For back spacing I usually get 4.5s for 15x8s and and my 15x7s I believe are 3.5 or 4in.

Thunder 68 Jul 31st, 02, 7:09 AM umm... i measured from the inside of one hole, to the outside of the other. I was going to purchase a set of rims from a friend that were 4 3/4"x5, and i tried to put one on to see how it looked (because everyone says its supposed to fit) and it didn't fit. how the hell could i have a 4.5"x5 pattern on a chevy?
Thunder 68 Jul 31st, 02, 9:27 PM never mind. the dude who tried to sell me the rims i mentioned was wrong, they were 5x5, and i was measuring my wheelstuds wrong. its outside of one to CENTER of the opposite. i feel dumb. thanks everyone who helped.
JWA Jul 31st, 02, 11:08 PM Don't feel bad. My next question was about those wheels. I think you were smart in trying to figure it out before plunking down your green. Thanks for the update too. BTW until this thread I never realized you measured from the center of one stud to the outside of the other. I always thought it was from center to center on the studs. Good Luck on your wheel quest http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Thunder 68 Aug 1st, 02, 7:24 AM i consulted a mechanic friend of mine who owns a race car and he had recently had to purchase a set of rims, and was told then the proper procedure for measuring the bolt pattern. it explained how I was off by .25". by the way, that is a beautiful 68 u have there. someday mine will look that good..
