Just in case anyone cares, here are some pictures of 18 X 10.5 wheels on my 70 GTO. The wheels have 6 inches of backspacing. The tire is a Nitto 295/45/18. Fits great. Looks awesome, even with the ass in the air. It should come down 2 inches or more when the interior is in the car, gas tank, etc..

Andrew,
Hey man i have been keeping up with your build-up through g-machines.com. Anyway just wondering when you will have all the little extras installed so we can really see how it sits. So far it looks awesome though. One other question. Do the allen screws on those wheels just stick out at you or are they less obvious. That would be the only think keeping me from getting 3-piece wheels.
Thanks
Michael

Michael,
Thanks for the comments. I am hoping to get the car running by the end of August. I am actually going to send in a submission to Car Craft to perticipate in the Real Street Eliminator. That is being held at the Bristol Bash in mid october. I figure my kind of car should do well in that. I figure by October I can have all the little details done.
The fastners on the wheels are actually not that obvious. I really like them as a matter of fact, but thats just personal taste. They are not allen, but 12 point. They not chrome or anything, but have a rather interesting finish on them. I would call it black chrome. They are dark, but shiny. Hard to describe.
Thanks again for the comments.

Are you running the same combo up front as in the rear? how is the clearance of the inner fenders with that big of a tire in the front?

I am running a slightly different combo in the front. The wheel is 18X8 with 5 inches of backspacing. The tire is 255/45/18. It is right at 27 inches in diameter. Its a snug fit. The car is pretty low in the front. I am using a 2" dropped B-Body tall spindle. I am also using the HAL coilover conversion kit in the front. Once I get the car running I will most likely raise it from where it is now. Due to the front tires rather large diameter there might be some rubbing on the wheelwell. When I turn the wheels to the right, and look at the right tire, the back outer edge of the tire only has about 1/4 inch clearance before it hits the wheelwell. So if I were to go into a driveway with the wheels fully cocked I think they will rub just a little. So I will probably raise the ride height just to avoid that. If its not too bad, then I might leave it.
Here are some detailed pics of the coilover install.

I think the best setup for the front will be to have the top of the tire even with the top of the arch on the fender.
I hope all this makse sense.LOL
