: 65 elcamino wheel fit trouble
john65 Apr 24th, 10, 2:46 PM new menber need some advice. 17x8 w/4.5" backspace doesn't fit on the rear of 65 el camino. bare wheel mounted leaves 1/4" between wheel rim and wheel well lip. Will a 17x7 w/4.25 backspace solve the problem?
Also, what size tire so that tire bulge won't hit the wheel rim.

Chevycollecter Apr 24th, 10, 9:27 PM My 65 EL Camino has 17x7 4.5 b.s. in the front and 17x8 5 b.s. in the rear. Tires are 205/45/17 in the front and 235/45/17 in the rear. Fit great.
john65 Apr 25th, 10, 5:38 PM did you modify the fenders at all? I am afraid of the 1/4" space to the fender lip. how much space do you have between the rim and the fender lip
mino65 Apr 25th, 10, 7:58 PM No mods at all.Ihave about a fingers width.
Verle Apr 25th, 10, 8:47 PM Have you checked to make sure you don't have a later (68-72) rearend. They are wider, cutting down on fender clearance.
Chevycollecter Apr 25th, 10, 9:17 PM Forgot to add that. No mods to my fender lips and I have the wheel well chrome strips on.
john65 Apr 26th, 10, 1:02 PM thanks for the info. I have about a finger width or less. Any Problems wedging the wheel in thier to mount them?
