: Long or short waterpump

I'm not sure if I have a long or short waterpump on my 67. I just bought an Alumitech radiator and am making sure I have all parts before I install it. It currently has a flex-a-lite fan with a 2'' spacer leaving the fan about 1/2 inch from the radiator. I have a repop shroud, and bought a fan-clutch and am working on getting a fan. Looks like without the spacer, the fan-clutch won't even fit between the pump pulley and the radiator. I do want to use the clutch fan and not go with electric fans, and by the looks of what I've read here a properly set up clutch fan will cool great.
Any help is appreciated. Sam

Based on the picture...Long.
If you can get your fingers between the waterpump and the timing cover, it's long.

Thanks Bill, now more questions. How much shorter is the short pump, and what pulleys will I have to change to accomodate a short pump. Sam

The short water pump was used up thru 1968 and the long water pump from 1969 and on. The main difference in the pulley set up from short vs long is the location of the alternator. Short had it mounted on the drivers side and long mounted it on the passenger side.

The pulleys are different between big block and small block and also short vs long water pumps. So to go with short water pump you need to change the position of your alternator.I know I got my motor out of a 67 and he had a short water pump.If I was you i would either google images of a 67 bbc.Or search in the archives.Hope you get it figured

Thanks Firedup! I always wondered why pics of other 67's had the alt on the drivers side and mine was on the pass. The engine is originally out of a 66 impala. At least that's what it decoded to.....Looks like a lot more work to change to the short pump.

you sure that clutch fan wont fit in there....2" spacer is a lot of room.....what fan clutch do you have?

Clutch fan is the stock one reccommended for the 67 big block chevelle. autozone made by hayden. checked on hayden site also. measures about 3 and 3/8's or so. I only have 3 inches or less clearance with the old radiator. new one is a little thicker, 3.25" It's impossible....I definitely have the long waterpump. I looked at some picks. I should be able to go short wp, short wp pulley and keep the alterrnator on the passenger side..any suggestions will help though. Thanks, Sam

Not sure your pulleys will line up Sam the short w/p will be in towards your block like you want. I think you will have to move you alt onto the drivers side.I have a 69 with a long water pump so I can have my alt on the pass side.

Looks like I would have to change something. The alt brackets look longer and narrow for driver side mounted alts....
