: Do I use all the rods for my headliner install? 68

Before reading note that when I say rod, I mean the steel rod, when I say loop, I mean the fabric loop in the headliner.

On my 68 chevelle Im going to install the headliner. The headliner I got only has 5 loops in it for rods. So I assumed the center rod that goes by the headlamp wasnt gunna be used. I go to put it in and notice the second to front loop falls right on the headlamp support area. The front loop falls on the front rod, but this means that the second to front rod will not be used. Did I get the wrong headliner or is the second to front rod not used?

As I understand it, there is both a 5 rod and 6 rod headliner system possible on a '68. So you're saying you have 6 rods on your car? Then you need the 6 loop headliner.

Can i use this one and just not put in the sixth rod? I cant see the trouble in that.

Up to you, but I would think you then might have trouble with streching it on the sides where the missing rod is. It might have a tendency to just pull down from the ceiling at that point.

If it's anything like my 67 headliner, the loop that goes by the dome light should be loaded with a stragiht rod (actually paper coated wire). You load that one first and fold over retaining tabs (made into the roof support) to achor the middle rod. Load the rest of your rods in the loops and clip them into the side holes. Then pull to the front of the headliner and clip, and then pull to the back and clip. You should be in good shape front and rear and now pull each side tight next and clip. Continue on with that headliner install link and you will be the proud owner of a DIY headliner job.
