Seems I got some overspray on my tires while repainting the rims. Whats a good way to get the paint off?

Well when that happens on the tractors we restore, we use black paint or tire paint. Apply that on the sidewall, might want to mask off around the outside of the rim bead. Then the black paint usually dries off and takes the overspray with it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I used paint thinner, but I have this bad feeling that it wasn't too good for my tires. But, they look OK now.
Only thing I ever use to clean tires and white letters and white walls is an SOS Pad. Dip the pad in water and have at the tire!! Dad use them in the '50's and '60's and I've done so since the '70's...
