Hi All,
My 1970 Chevelle Malibu was originally blue body/interior. I repainted and updated the interior to black. Only problem is I can't seem to find steering column parts in black.
Does anyone know where to buy the panels/parts to change a blue steering column to black... other than the steering wheel. Is this even possible to do without replacing the whole thing?
Thanks

Why not just paint the one you already have?

I painted mine. I had it all apart to fix some blinker issues and get rid of the old auto stub but then I just painted it. Looks great.

I was thinking of painting it with plastic paint, but in a few parts where the panels come together on the column, it looks like someone tried to pry it apart and there are big marks in the plastic.

30046 Almost all Chevelles have black or white interior. I liked the brite blue so maybe could leave your column blue. I'm very pleased with mine and it was black I painted it to match the interior.

Did you remove the steering column, or tape it off and paint it in the car?

30051 I sprayed every thing with the vinyl dye at the same time. I had the column dropped some. You have to tape stuff up well. Notice how electric the blue was, I had to lighten it some.

I just changed the color of my column; Blue to Black... Mine (both a '70 and a '72) don't have any plastic pieces... I cleaned/sanded/primed/sanded and painted... I also used some bondo/filler on a few spots (I converted it from column-shift to floor shift so I needed to build up that area)...
On the dash, around the column, I changed the color of those pieces ( from Black to blue though)... I used SEM primer and paint for the first coats, and then used regular paint for my final color coats...
Confusing, but the column was a '72 tilt, wrong color blue, plus I changed the dash to the "SS" style (round gauges) so I painted the column black...
