I am getting ready to put some new tires on my 72 el camino with the stock SS wheels. I am looking to put BFG 275/60/15 on the rear and 255/60/15 on the front. Has anyone had any experience with these types of tires and compatability with relation to size/rubbing/etc?

The stock rims are only 15x7. About the largest tire that fits properly is a 245/60. I know a lot of guys will say, "oh I've got a 275 on my 7 inch rims and it works just fine", well I'm talking properly, meaning wear wise, safety wise, performance wise, and IMO look wise. A too big of a tire on a too narrow rim just doesn't look right. Actually, 235's are an excellent size for 7 inch rims but I know they won't give you the look you are going for. Also, its been my experience, (and I've had a lot), that unless you have new and updated suspension on the front, anything over 235's on the front and the car will wander all over like it has a mind of its own. There are places that will widen your stock wheels to a 15x8 so you can use a wider tire and retain your stock look. Might be good way to go.

Good luck!

Dino,

I run the same wheels on my '68 with a 24560R15 and it works and looks great.

I need a hand finding the centercaps for my wheels on a 72 El Camino Custom, it has the 2nd generation rally wheels with the 6 trapezoid shaped holes that i plan on putting chrome inserts in, but the centercap is a 5 spoke cap that is all chrome, fits onto the wheel up and between the lug nuts, anyone know where i might be able to find these? i rarely even see pictures of them anywhere, i can provide a picture of one wheel that i have almost a complete set for.
