: steering coupling wire?

i have a 69 coupe as i started to undo the steering joint coupling to ad new body bushings i found a wire in the middle of it. it is hooked up to the gearbox.does it go to the coupling bolts? no clue were it goes. thanks

Not sure why you posted this in Wheels & Tires, but I'll reply before it gets moved. That wire is a "jumper" wire that completes a ground circuit between the steering box and the steering column shaft. The ground is necessary to complete your horn circuit. To make the horn blow, a ground is completed by squeezing your steering wheel horn pad together, making a metal-to-metal contact. The ground is sent down thru your steering column, thru this wire, thru the steering box to the frame and directly to a ground. Hook the wire back up using one of your rag joint bolts when your reassemble.
