Hi all, I am building a 65 and would like to know what size tires anyone has been able to stuff in the rear without fender mod's. I would like to be able to put a 275-50-15 if possible, has anybody tried this size? I ran this tire on a 15x8 with a 4 1/2 inch backspacing on my last project (68 Camaro).

Fresnochevy,
This subject has been covered alot over the years and there is a wealth of info for ya if you type in 64-65 in the search feature.
I also own a 65 and haven't decided on wheel/tire size yet...So many combos.
I can't recall seeing that much meat put in the rear without problems, or modifications?

Anyways, good luck with your search and I'm sure if someone is running that now, they will answer ya.

I have 275x60R-15's mounted on 15x8 wheels with 4-1/2" backspacing on the rear of my 1965 El Camino. I have about 1/2" clearance between the tire and wheel opening lip and 3/4" on the inside.

Just squeezed 28X11.5 M/T ET Streets on my 65. Had a 7" wide rim with 4.5"BS. HAD to roll quarters to fit. I think 7" rim with 5" backspacing may work better, I have a little more clearance on the inside than the out.
