Drove car, all fine. Went to pull out of garage next day, won't crank. replaced starter. still won't crank. Battery voltage good. All lights good (dash lights, radio works). Power to neutral safety switch good. If I cross starter wires engine will crank. Could this be the ignition switch?

Ignition switch problem perhaps. They don't last forever and are easy to change.

Thanks for your post. Just trying to figure out how to troubleshoot the ignition switch before replacing. Everybody said it was probably the starter celinoid and I replaced the starter and still nothing. You say its easy to change? Do I have to pull the steering wheel apart? Thanks for your help!

The ignition key turns the cylinder which turns a rack and pinion type setup to move a rod back and forth down to the switch. The switch is on top of the column. There are two nuts that you can remove to drop the column down for better access. Two little bolts hold the switch to the steering column. There was a post on here yesterday with a picture of the rod and switch.

Thanks. I'll give that a try!

I had a similar problem with another car and all it was was the fuse to the ignition coil. I chased a few other suspects before finally finding the culprit.

max2. Have you checked to see if the starter is getting voltage to the small terminal? Put a test light on it and see if you get power when you turn the key. If not, go to the neutral safety switch and see if the test light lights up when you turn key (move the ign. switch). The ign. switch should have power in and out when turning the key. The switch may be out of adjustment or just bad.

Check the purple wire for voltage while key is in start position.
Then check purple with white stripe (after the key but before neutral safety switch)
If there isn't voltage there while trying to start, I'd go to the ignition switch itself next.
