My buddy and I are going to go in on some mild slicks together. I've been eyeing the BFG 270/60/15s because I'm pretty sure they'll be enough to handle my car's power. I been reading old posts and it seems like everyone has no problem fitting them under a 70 with 4.5" of backspacing. My question is will they fit my car with the 1.5" Hotchkis drop in the rear? Also will these fit my friend's 69 Camaro (Stock ride height) with the same 4.5" bs? If not could someone advise a tire to use instead? I've got a 355 w/360 hp 400lb/tq, 2000 stall 200-4R and 3.55 gears in the back. My friend's camaro is a 396/375hp 400lb/tq, M22 and 3.73s in back.

Can't answer your question with a lowered rear end on the 70 Chevelle and not sure on the Camaro thing either, but my concerns are with the statement "handle the power of my engine". The BFG T/A's are a general all around pretty good looking and handling street tire. But if you expect to get gobs of traction (handling the engine power) you will largely be disappointed. They break loose fairly easy and you will spin the devil off of them trying to get traction under WOT. A softer compound is needed to get better traction I would think. It just depends on what your plans are. Street Cruizer?? A good tire for that application. Street racer? (which I don't condone) or even part time drag strip user?? Another tire might be better.

I thought I was clear when I said "mild slick". I'm looking to buy a drag radial of that size. We're both 19 and we would like to have a tire we could put on, drive to the track, then get some better traction than the T/A's we both run on the street. Then when the races are over we'd drive home and put our T/A's back on for our daily driving. Also, I live about 15 minutes from Sears Point and that's where I do my racing. Don't worry about street racing. That barely ever happens around here. Why bother when you've got one of the fastest tracks in the country in your backyard?

If you can look on my website the pic of my 69 Camaro is on 15x8s with a 265/50 tire the B.S. is 4.5.My camaro (http://www.tcg158.homestead.com/files/frntdrvr1.jpg) My rear wheel well lips are rolled(before purchase of car) and they clear fine. The 275/60s probably won't work unless your roll the wheel well lip on the Camaro. On your chevelle with the same back space I bet the tires would fit. Another option for tires might be the M/T et street. Its not a radial but is far better than the BFG from what I have seen. You might also consider the Hoosier Quick Time Pros. The 2 previous are a bit more expensive than the BFGs.
Very commendable attitude about street racing also http://www.chevelles.com/forum/cool.gif. Good Luck and have fun http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Okay well it looks like my friend just backed out on the deal so these wheels and tires only have to fit my car.
Anyone have a slightly lowered '70 who's running some sort of Street Legal slick.
Ace I would love to get those Hoosiers or the E/T but like you said, they're a little more expensive.
I wanted to do this with as little money as possible. I'm paying for college out of my pocket for now and I only work part time because I'm playing baseball too. Maybe I'll throw down a little more cash for the better traction but I really don't have to worry about it right now. I'm waiting for my new transmission to come in the mail.
