: Cross eyed 70
JLowe Apr 16th, 10, 12:07 PM Is there any clever way to get rid of the "cross eyed" look on a 70 with the repro fenders? Since the headlight bucket aren't movable is the only answer to cut and move?? Every 70 I have seen with aftermarket fenders has this problem. THanks
Chris
ToocoolZ28 Apr 16th, 10, 1:32 PM Ive never seen this, I would like to see what you are talking about.

Big White Apr 16th, 10, 2:28 PM I assume that you are talking about the headlamps not being perfectly centered in the bezels.
The problem is not strictly unique to reproduction fenders.
Do a search: " '70 Headlights ". Look for a thread entitled Headlights Not Centered In Trim - What To Adjust. It was posted by Chicken Coupe aka Fred on August 4th, '08 in the Body Shop forum. You'll find three pages of reading.
Alwhite00 Apr 16th, 10, 7:52 PM Mine are not exactly centered and everything on the front of mine is OEM, Matter of fact I don't think I have ever seen one at a show that was centered.

70SS Apr 16th, 10, 7:56 PM Yay, I think most do that
Robinls5 Apr 17th, 10, 3:34 PM :oThe cross-eyed look is not your fenders. I have " 2 " VO 1 core supports. The Org. core support on my one owner has the cross-eyed look and my other 70 with a Org 70 VO-1 core support looks the same.
The E-Z fix is to move the headlight buckets in the core support-------- DAAAAaaaaaa ! I dont think so. Mine has looked cross-eyed for FORTY years and it is going to look the same for another 40 years !! Both core supports are org. G.M. LS-5s with A/C.= VO-1.

Tom Mobley Apr 17th, 10, 4:40 PM My original 70 is like that too, no aftermarket parts involved. It's always bugged me but never enough to actually do anything about it.
Dave Apr 17th, 10, 4:49 PM I've never noticed what you guy's are talking about.
grandsport Apr 17th, 10, 4:57 PM Mine looks a little cross eyed after about 6 beers.:)

Dave,
You've been hanging around with ToocoolZ28 too long.
YankeeRodder Apr 19th, 10, 6:40 PM I noticed this problem the moment I looked at my 70 the first time. Just figured it had a rough life behind it. A few parking lot fistfights with grocery getters.
webfoot Apr 20th, 10, 2:01 PM +1 more to orig fenders and core support and non-centered headlights. I have plenty of other flaws in the car to keep me distracted from the weird headlights though.
davewho1 Apr 21st, 10, 5:01 AM Anyone ever going to post a photo of this deformity? Never noticed it myself ...

Dave,
Do a search for the Chicken Coupe thread that I mentioned previously. There are three pages of comments including photos. The alignment condition runs from unnoticeable unless you really look for it to pretty extreme as you'll see in one or more of the photos.

Big White Apr 21st, 10, 10:54 AM Dean,
Thanks for posting the thread. I would have done it myself, had I known how.
What's the secret to doing it?
Thanks,
Rich
