1969 Velle rear drum brakes:

Knocked out the old 3" and seated the new with moroso 3" studs.

Mic'd everything and the studs are exactly the same including the knurl size.

I can't get the stud face to seat completely against the back of the axle flange with a washer stack, lugnut, and an electric HD impact (or a breaker bar).

I was torquing it so much I screwed the nut threads and in turn (while trying to back the nut off) totally destroyed my new stud!!!

When I looked at the knurl, it had only managed to seat about 1/4 of the way on its teeth.

Please help!!!! what am I doing wrong here, and what are the alternatives???

The car is totally immobile so getting it somewhere to access an air ratchet is out of the question....

H E L P !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your probly working agains the old grooves left by the old studs.Try to spin them untill they catch in the old grooves.

OR,did you have to drill them out for the new studs? Try putting the studs in the freezer for a couple hours. They'll swrink and go in easier, then expand as they warm up.

I sounds like you are saying where the axle starts to flange out, the stud sits on that ridge. I usually install 5/8" studs with a .685 knrul and I have found that I need to take a bench grinder to a 1/4 of the circle and take a little surface off. The stud will not pull threw and you don't grind it to the knrul, just take enough out to clear the lip (or where it cones to the actual axle shaft). It that doesn't make much sense email me and I can help you. I install these all the time in race cars here Nor Cal.

Thanks guys....

Before your responses I happened across another post that mentioned putting grease on the splines and the inner and outer 'stack' of washers as well as putting anti seize on the stud threads.

After buying another set I tried it. It wasn't as easy going as I thought it wld be but there finally in and seated.

Thanks for the reply's....
