: Do I have fuel tank pressure or vaccum?

The reason I ask is I keep getting gas in my oil. I have the timing set right, and the carb was rebuilt a couple years ago. I have heard that too much pressure in the tank can cause flooding. When I unscrew my gas cap after driving a while, the filler hole actually raises an inch or so. It doesn't want to throw the cap off though. I thought that if it was pressure it would throw the cap off. Is this vaccum or pressure?
Could it be a reason why I am getting gas in my oil?
Thanks

Are you having any hard start/flooding/fuel leakage or other driveability issues with the engine?
If not, a very likely culprit is a leaking diaphragm in the fuel pump, assuming it's a mechanical engine mounted pump.

No the car runs great, that's why I was having trouble assuming that it was a carburator problem. I do get a little gas puddling on the intake.
So do you think I should change the mechanical fuel pump? I think they are cheap enough.
Thanks

seems to me you should look at that float and seat in that carb. That puddle is whats left of the fuel that has run down your intake, past the open valve, around your piston ring, and into the oil. Not a good thing.........................you don't have a non vented locking gas cap on your velle do you?

No I have the stock vented anti surge cap.
I will get someone to take a look at the carb again. Thanks
