406_70_velle May 18th, 02, 4:35 PM I've always used mothers to buff the surface. Then with a damp rag wipe off the oily residue. Has been working great for me and has worked on other rims the same way.
Maybe the best thing is some elbow grease http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I have tried many of the aluminum wheel cleaners with pretty good success with most of them. But, the best that I have seen is "Simachrome" It can be purchased at your local Harley Davidson Shop or maybe other motorcycle shops also. I used this stuff 30 years ago on my Honda cases and it worked great then and still does the best now. You will still need the elbow grease as mentioned above, but the results, IMO, look better than Mother's, Wenol, Metal Polish, and others that I have tried.
Good Luck

71velle May 20th, 02, 10:09 AM I have fought this same problem on my draglites for 10 years now. I have tried everything..mothers, simichrome, and countless others....the BEST I have found is BUSCH Aluminum polish.....I bought some at the street rod show in York Pa. There display booth had a weld draglite on a stand, half of it looked dull like my wheels usually did, and they other half was factory new looking....well after I watched the guy make the dull half look new right in front of my eyes I bought a bottle and have been using it ever since.
I don't think you can buy it at any retail stores...you either have to get it at shows or there are some places online that sell it.
Just my experience.

Mytmouse May 20th, 02, 12:22 PM I will admit I have not used the Busch stuff mentioned above but it is better than "Simichrome" , I got to try it...and will if I ever se it anywhere. But for about 10.00 or less you can get a tube of the Simichrome and see what you think.

I found this: Busch Super Shine Aluminum Polish is described as a revolutionary liquid polish that creates a long-lasting shine on all common uncoated aluminum surfaces. It is formulated to shine polished, machined, and even diamond-plate surfaces quickly and easily. The ammonia-free product can be applied by hand or with a power buffer. The buffing residue reportedly can be wiped off the metal surface easily. It also can be washed off hands with plain soap and water, which prevents stained hands and fingernails. According to product literature, Super Shine can also restore the shine to brass, copper, and stainless steel. Busch Super Shine Aluminum Polish has a suggested retail price of $11.95.

kjett May 24th, 02, 8:38 AM Simachrome is IMO without a doubt the best polish you can use on your chrome. It shines to perfection and doesn't seem to dull after numerous washing. I had my wife deplete the stock at the local Restoration Hardware store (only 3 tubes) just so I wouldn't run out. They run ~$6 a tube.

71velle May 24th, 02, 4:01 PM Simichrome is what I was using before I came across Busch Aluminum Polish.
I would use Simichrome on chrome but draglites are aluminum. When I first got the Busch stuff I did the front wheel with busch and the back wheel with Simichrome for a comparison test. The front wheel takes more of a beating with the disk brakes and the Busch polish still made it look better than the rear wheel.
JOEL_TX May 25th, 02, 2:09 PM simichrome works great on aluminum(I use it on my motorcycle frame/wheels.I also use Eagle One Never Dull. Its easier to apply cause it comes as a wadding and you can just tear off small pcs and use as needed.....
IGOTTA71 May 26th, 02, 11:46 PM One word: Wenol
It's the best. It can't even be compared to the other stuff.

ratdog42 Jan 24th, 10, 12:26 PM I was using Simichrome on newly polished stuff, but the Busch works great on abused stuff, more so than Simichrome. I got mine 20 or so years ago at American Speed Center here in PA, didn't like it compared to Simichrome, was hard to rub off. But that was new polished aluminum, now I'm dealing with abused polished alum and the Busch stuff out performed the Simichrome. Just my experience with it.......................
