I am looking for a set of tall valve cover for my 70 with a 454cid. I have roller rockers and I am looking for stamped steel replacements(factory looking but taller). Here is my problem, I DON'T want chrome. I want a factory looking cover but all I can find is chrome. I have called some vendors and all they offer is chrome. I know I could sand and panit them(which I might have to) but it just seems to be a waste to chrome something then turn around and sand it off. Does anyone know where I could get a hold of a pair of them before that chrome them? without buying 200 pairs too.
Thank you for your help!

Do you absolutely need tall covers, or would very thick gaskets do the job? If yopu go to engine I was given a part # and for $17 from Summit had a set of thick cork gaskets ( which I shot in orange btw). Those alone clear the Crower rockers ( witha slightly shorter lock nut), and I will also run the rubber gaskets that came in my FElPro enigne set.
Oddly, I was using some OEM orange covers while I was setting the valve train, etc, while still ont eh stand, and I have grown very warm to their look as opposed to the chromes EVERYONE has.
So oem covers, a thick cork gasket which I glued to the heads, and the rubber one held in by tabs on the covers, and I have a mile of clerance underneath.
In fact, I am going to sand and repaint the oem to make them flawless. I really dig the monochrome orange look!

Gene,
you hit the nail on the head. I like the orange monochrome look also, plus the heat that the chrome holds, plus the sleeper look is the way to go! you can have all the badges you want, you can have the biggest thickest stripes you can have on a car, the only thing I car about is the loud pedal and being able to back it up.
