Hey Guys,

I recently removed the original fuel line and what I am thinking is a vent line off of my 1970 SS. The fuel line I already have but I need to order the other line. It looks like there are a couple different lines available. I noticed that mine is 1/4 and ran from the sending unit to the engine bay and then there was a 90 degree piece of rubber hose on it that wasn't attached to anything. I checked inlinetube.com and the description they give is a little confusing for what my application is. What is the difference between a return line and a vapor line. I figured I needed a vapor line but it states in the description "This is the one piece 5/16" Vapor fuel line that runs the full length of the car. This line runs for the fuel tank to the vapor canister under hood" only I dont have a canister. Just realized the part number on there site is wrong also.

What engine was originally in your car?? Depending on options and build date there are a couple ways the lines could be configured. Most common setup for the 396/350hp and the 454/360hp, was one 3/8 inch supply line, and one 1/4 inch return line. They ran down the passenger side of the frame, clipped and retained together. It's common that people unhooked the 1/4 inch line and plugged it up front by the engine.

The 5/16 inch vapor line is for cars with the California emissions and the charcoal canister, that is correct.

I forgot to mention, that the 350 horse and the 360 horse engines all used the 40768 long can fuel pump with the two hose fittings. L78's and early LS6 cars only used one 3/8 inch supply line and a 40727 pump with the single hose fitting.

I don't have a build sheet so I am not sure what was in the car originally. Only clue is a 396/350 HP TH400 radiator that was in the car. The previous owner was running one 3/8th supply line to the mechanical pump. As you stated both lines ran down the passenger side of the frame and were clipped and retained together. The 1/4 inch line was not attached to anything, it just had a 90 degree piece of rubber on the end pointed towards the ground. It is an Arlington, TX car and is no longer a 396. It is a 489 stroker that I am trying to make look "stockish"

You might think about getting some 1/2 inch line and making your own stock looking line, that is a lot of engine to try to feed with a 3/8 inch line....
