: F70 X 14" conversion?

My build sheet called for this size tire and I wondered how to convert it to todays #'s? What brand tire did GM use in 1970 and were they raised white letters? All the pictures I see of these SS's have raised white letters and I want to keep my car original looking.

Thanks for any help.

I think it's been mentioned before what they convert to but I think it was 215/70/14. I think you could get Good Year or Firestone with raised white letters on the 70SS. Hope this helps...

I agree with cr70 man above. Goodyear Polyglas or Firestone (something or other) were what came on the 70SS and they were white raised letter tires. I took my Goodyears off last year and bought some BFG Radial T/A's (white letter) because the car doesn't handle very good with "factory correct" tires. Also I wanted to go to a wider tire on the back. There are purists out there that still run this type tire as I think they must still be available (for a hefty price I bet) but if you are going to drive it, I suggest a good radial tire. Take advantage of todays technology and be safer

Just my $.02

Thanks for your help cm70man and Mightymouse. I'm going to shop around for a good looking raised white letter all season radial.

I still run polyglass G70-15 on my 72 convertible and they SUCK! Bias tires will try to follow every groove in the road http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif
