The raised white letters on my back tires got scuffed up http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif Darn fender lip! (and curb http://www.chevelles.com/forum/tongue.gif)
What do you guys use for painting the white letters back to a nice bright white? I would like something reasonably permanent as I don't want to paint them every week.

Can't do much about cuts and scrapes but an SOS pad will make them white again. You can clean the whole tire with SOS and they look great!!! You won't want to paint them when you're done.

SOS pads are great and so is Westley's Bleach-white. This stuff really brightens up white letters and the black wall as well. You probably think you scraped the white off but most likely you didn't. The white will come back.....just scrub it!

BE CAREFUL USING BLECHE WHITE!!!!
That stuff will ETCH polished aluminum rims! I learned that the hard way, and spent a couple hours with my drill and a buffing bit trying to get the marks off my centerlines... Never did get them all off.
The SOS pads do work well, so do scotchbrite pads.

Scotchbrite pads. If you use the bleach or Wesley's, then put it on the pad. Don't spray it on.

This killing of posts is starting to tick me off. I posted something EXACTLY like this and now I can't find it by searching. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/mad.gif
The white letter IS the inner lining of the tire. The black is then put over it. Then white rubber is then "presses" through.
So, you can take a Plain (woodcutting tool for shaving) you could bring up a brand new white surface. hypothetical though.
I use Comet. Sprinkle it on teh brush and go to town. shines up really nice.
-This was explained to me last time and I'm pretty sure it's true.

Mike is exactly right about the white layer being pushed through the black...
That is also a good reminder- Be careful scrubbing the blackwall areas! You can wear through to the white rubber layer under it!!
