I can not find anything on them at all. A buddy has a 72, and we are trying to determine all the options motor etc. TIA Trey.

Most everything you need, you can look up here.

You can get the motor from the VIN. Decoding the engine code can be found here:
http://www.chevelles.com/sprint/

Build options are here:
http://www.chevelles.com/shop/options.html

For instance, if it came with a bench seat, it will probably have A52 on the cowl tag.

The 72 paint codes are here:
http://www.chevelles.com/years/72/72paint.html

You can also post your cowl tag in the "Tag Team" forum, where someone can probably tell you exactly what all the numbers mean.

Thank you for the info. I found that first site, but it didn't help me alot. We know it had A/C and a 350, but He was wanting to know all of the options.

I'm not an expert like most on this site but this is what I came up with:

72 - Year
53680 - Should be either 5C80 (Standard) or 5D80 (Custom)
L – Los Angeles
00676- Unit Number
704 – Black Interior
A52 – Bench Seat
14 B – Pewter Silver
730963 180309 -data processing tracking numbers used internally

I'm sure I'll be corrected shortly withan error in my decode.

Thank you for the decode. It was just confusing. Its easy to decode a camaro.

That's what I was thinking... 53680 sounds like a 71 Custom.

That is what is throwing me. I have checked the numbers 6 times and I know they are right. I get that its a custom but the tag clearly says 72

The VIN changed in 72 to the new format with letter code and the engine code included as the fifth character, but the trim tags continued to use the old format from 71 and earlier. There is no problem with your trim tag. I'll assume that your VIN tag actually starts with 5D80.

What is the VIN (5th character in VIN identifies the engine type) ?

Round speedometer or the wide rectangular "sweep" speedometer ?

The "B" after the paint code (14) indicates a Black vinyl top.
